Jennifer Lawson is the Disaster Recovery Manager for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles and a Board member for the Emergency Network Los Angeles. In this role, Jennifer played a major part in the recovery from wildfires of recent years and is currently developing a program to help Los Angeles County residents mitigate against future disasters. According to FEMA, LA County is more susceptible to natural disasters that any other county in the nation. "I had an amazing experience with MAIA, I particularly loved the seminar style classes that inspired interesting and insightful conversations. I appreciated the diverse backgrounds and experiences of my fellow students and vast expertise of professors. I made lifelong friends as a MAIA student and still miss the classroom discussions."
In addition to her work with disasters and emergency management, she is an active member of International Citizen Diplomacy of Los Angeles, a chapter of the U.S. State Department’s International Visitor Leadership Program. In the past year, Jennifer had the opportunity to host meetings with delegates from Indian and Azerbaijan on the topics of disasters/ emergency management and interfaith relations, respectively.
